Maggie Cunha
National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps/Caring Counts Program

Maggie Cunha was sworn in as a commissioner on October 27, 2008. Maggie’s professional and volunteer background addresses issues as diverse as housing, literacy, union organizing, HIV/AIDS, and the environment. Maggie has been active in service for over 10 years, including one year of national service with an AmeriCorps program in Brockton, MA.

Passionate about addressing the social and economic determinants of health, she received a master’s degree in public health from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Here, she was also received the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Community Service for her work in Holyoke, MA, where she established a peer health education program for youth.

Maggie is currently promoting the next generation of HIV/AIDS and public health leaders as a program officer with the National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps/Caring Counts Program. In her role, she provides training and technical assistance to seven cities and 49 AmeriCorps members. National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps/Caring Counts members provide direct service to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
