Amy Ward, Executive Director

Amy Ward was appointed by Mayor Adrian M. Fenty to serve as the Executive Director of Serve DC - The Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism on July 17, 2008. Amy comes to Serve DC after working as the Chief of Staff for the DC Fire & EMS Department. Before the fire department, Amy began her career in DC government as the Director the of DC Citizen Corps at Serve DC where she managed more than 3,000 volunteers which consisted of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Neighborhood Corps, and Commander Ready youth preparedness programs. She previously served her community as a St. Louis County Police Office completing a Class A police academy and shortly thereafter serving as a beat officer on the streets of St. Louis, Missouri before heading to Washington, DC to attend Law School.

Amy received her JD from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law where she was awarded one of the top eight first year scholarships in recognition of her service-learning background and general volunteerism in the community at large. Ms. Ward spent numerous hours volunteering during service-learning trips while attending Culver-Stockton College in Missouri where she received a B.S. in Psychology and Criminal Justice.

Of the hard-working staff at Serve DC she says, “No one outworks this agency. They have such all-around heart and passion for addressing the needs of the city!” Amy is very proud to be back at Serve DC helping to fulfill the agency’s mission “to strengthen and promote the District of Columbia's public service activities in order to address community needs through national service programs, integrated community partnerships, emergency preparedness, and volunteerism”.
