Disability Inclusion Initiative

Serve DC and AmeriCorps encourages a diverse membership that includes people with disabilities to participate as AmeriCorps members in the District of Columbia. One of AmeriCorps' goals is the full and proactive inclusion of individuals with disabilities in service. Under federal law, AmeriCorps program sites are required to comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. In addition, AmeriCorps program sites must make reasonable accommodations to enable a qualified applicant or AmeriCorps member with a disability to participate in the application process or to perform essential service functions.

Serve DC currently has funding available for any AmeriCorps program site operating in the District of Columbia to provide reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities who are applicants or current AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps program sites must apply for the funding. Download the Application for Reasonable Accommodation Funds*.

Disability Inclusion Policy*

Serve DC is currently seeking a broad range of knowledgeable, interested and diverse representatives for the Disability Inclusion Advisory Committee.

If you would like more information on the Disability Inclusion Initiative, please call or email Natalie Wasserman at (202) 727-9579.
