Neighborhood Corps
Neighborhood Corps is sponsored by Serve DC - The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism and the Washington, DC Citizen Corps Council. Neighborhood Corps are groups of emergency trained volunteers that are capable of self deploying and responding to emergencies that occur in their local community, they also act as team leaders or are able to represent Serve DC at the Emergency Operations Center during special events.
Neighborhood Corps teams are made up of individuals who have successfully completed the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and who live or work within the same community. Upon completing CERT training, members will go through the Neighborhood Corps Academy classes taught by professional, first responders, or experts in the field of emergency management, classes will include but are not limited to:

CPR/AED, first aid training and certification

Transportation training (traffic control, metro safety)

National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command Structure (ICS) classes

Spontaneous volunteer management training
-
Shelter and mass care training and certification
-
Emergency Liaisons Officer/WebEOC/800mhrz radio training and certification

Mass casualty Incident training
-
Counter-Terrorism training and certification
-
Local MPD and fire/EMS threats and risks in the community
Once members successfully complete the Neighborhood Corps Academy and have been plugged into a team in their community they will be able to do the following:

Work with emergency first responders in their community

Lead a group of emergency volunteers and spontaneous volunteers in the event of an emergency during special events

Assist first responders within their community

Write after action reports
-
Reach out to their community to help teach about emergency preparedness

Perform outreach for the CERT and Neighborhood Corps programs

Work with Serve DC to and other agencies to host classes and trainings that are specific to their community
