Since 2003, Serve DC has administered Learn and Serve America grants to schools and community-based organizations to support high quality service-learning programs in Washington, DC. Through a partnership with the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Serve DC administers school-based sub-grants to K-12 District of Columbia Public Schools and public charter schools.
Service-learning is an integral part of Learn and Serve America. Service-Learning has expanded in schools and community-based settings in the District of Columbia and across the country. Going beyond logging community service hours to instilling a habit of service in youth, service-learning creates a comprehensive learning experience for young people that puts them at the center of their learning and equips them to be change agents in their communities.
