Global Youth Service Day
April 23-25, 2010

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), the largest volunteer event in the world was held April 24-26, 2009. Thousands of District youth joined hands with millions of young people across the globe in the name of service. Serve DC led the citywide event for the eighth year in a row, mobilizing District youth and their families to participate in various creative community service projects. Over 20,000 volunteers participated in 112 service projects in every ward of the city.

Projects included painting murals and planting gardens at schools, cleaning up the Anacostia River by removing trash and debris, educating youth on emergency preparedness, organizing a Senior Prom for local senior citizens, preparing meals for homeless individuals and many more. The youth-led service projects made a tremendous impact in our community.
